11-24-13 For New Friends and the Old Friends Grateful for It

I'm grateful for the new friends that come into my life and then when I tell my old friends about them they are grateful as well!  It's a wonderful feeling.  I was thinking about this today and it made me smile.  Grateful for that as well.

10-12-2013 All the People Around Me

I'm grateful for all of the people around me.  It's because of them that everything seems worthwhile.  The people I help, the people that help me, the people that just say hi, grateful for all of them!

9-5-13 Coffee after a Run

I run with people sometimes 3 days a week.   Usually someone brings coffee, or maybe more than one person does.  I sometimes just have a little bit or maybe a lot.   It's always nice and makes the socializing after the run just a little bit nicer.  Every little bit helps, so I'm grateful for that.

7-18-2013 In Season Fruit

Strawberries are everywhere at only $2.00/lb.  Cherries are down to $1.99 on sale, blueberries are still around.  Eat up the fresh fruit.  It's in season, it's fresh and doesn't cost as much and you feel so much better after polishing off a bunch of strawberries instead of something not so good for you or not so fresh.
I'm grateful for all of this in season fruit.

7-16-2013 The Cat

Sammy is staying here for a few days without the boys.  When the boys and Sammy aren't here it could get pretty quiet.  In December I got a cat.  Andy had always wanted one.  We used to joke that our old dog Chelsea acted like a cat.  But actually, this cat, "Catty", is a pretty friendly cat.  Sometimes she is standing by the front door  when I get home from work.  She's not a completely do her own thing cat.  She's a good Catty.
I'm grateful for the cat.

7-14-2013 Pictures

I looked through a stack of pictures, and then through a folder on the computer of more pictures I hadn't seen in a while.  I remembered things that I didn't know I had forgotten.  Happy things came to life.

I was grateful for seeing those pictures, so grateful I decided it was time for another entry in this blog.

4-18-13 Bananas

I stopped by my parents house to help them get their car packed up.  My brother was coming down to drive up with my Mom and my Dad was flying out the next day.

It was the end of the season, and as he was going through his list of worries, my Dad mentioned that they would be leaving too soon for the bananas to be ripe.

Bananas?  I knew he had banana plants but I didn't know they had any bananas yet.

We went to the side of the house, I saw them and said "These look ready.  You just cut them down when they are full size."

After cutting down the bananas and setting them aside to be packed up in the car, it was if at least 75% of all of the other problems didn't seem so bad.

Thanks bananas.

4-15-13 Rusty Bellies

My parents were getting close to heading back up North for the Summer.   My Dad had just been through several hospitalizations for heart issues and I hadn't spent nearly enough time with them.

They called me at work and said they going out to eat in Tarpon Springs at a place called Rusty Bellies.  It was right on the water, I had been there once before and they had been there several times and loved it.

I showed up, and just like that, everything felt ok.  As a bonus I had the best, freshest tasting grouper I had had in a long time and had it served as a Souvlaki.

It was one of those moments you wish could happen everyday.

I'm grateful for that unplanned trip to Rusty Bellies.

3-9-13 Kumquats

In the right hand corner of the backyard, there is a kumquat tree.  It was a beautiful spring Florida day, not too warm, just right.  We were doing various things in the backyard (it needs a LOT of stuff done) - trimming low branches from the oak trees, trimming the little palm tree.  Toward the end of the day I saw Andy picking some kumquats.  He told me there were a ton of them and they tasted great.   I had turned up the bottom of his shirt to make a bowl and had quite a few.  We brought them back inside and each had some.
You can just pick them right off the tree, eat them whole.  The seeds and skin are all part of the fruit.
There was a lot of great things in the backyard.
But, I remember the kumquats and am grateful for them.

1-7-2013 Happy

I was mainly going to just do this blog for one year, but then I decided instead of looking for things to be grateful about I would write it down.

My youngest son can get really down about Sundays (and so do lots of people, the end of the weekend can be really sad sometimes).  Monday also if it was a long weekend, can be sad.

But this Monday, the end of break blues seemed to be bypassed.  We went to Buffalo Wild Wings for dinner, as a winter break last hurrah, and since they had such a good time going to one out in Texas.  After dinner, when it was later time for bed, my oldest one wanted to sleep in youngest sons room, which they hadn't done for quite some time.  He used to have bunk beds but now has a loft bed.  Older one slept on the bed, and younger one slept on a sleeping bag set on top of the couch cushions which I borrowed from the couch.  Even the dog wanted to sleep in the room, so I moved the dog bed into an empty spot.

Younger one said, why isn't this last day sad? (or something like that), in other words, he was happy, and so was I.
