Today is a day of sad remembrance. But, if you want to look to a friend who doesn't need to know of the world's troubles, there's always your dog. And if you need to go somewhere that no one else wants to go (like the pet store for more dog food), your dog will always want to go. You don't have to talk to him but he won't feel ignored, just happy to be with you and going someplace, even if not very far.
So, today I'm grateful for driving my car with my dog.
For 2012 I will write at least one thing I am grateful for. It's not in any order and does not mean I am not grateful for a lot of other things, too, it's just what I happened to think of.

9-10-2015 Pre-race pasta party
I've been to a lot of races and skipped many of the pre-race pasta parties. But this year I've been to them in Boston, Stroudsburg, and Pocatello. They are nothing fancy but whether going alone or with friends there's some sort of magic and bonding to sit with the others runners and their families about to embark on another marathon journey the next day. The one I went to this past weekend I was by myself. I walked in not knowing anyone and walked out knowing several people's stories and felt like I ran into old friends at the end of the race. Well worth it in every way!
I'm grateful for these pre-race pasta parties!

9-9-2015 Changes of Scenery
I'm grateful and a bit in awe of what a dramatic change of scenery can do. This past weekend I went to Pocatello, ID. Flew into Salt Lake City airport and drove about two hours north. So, I saw the mountains in Utah and the rolling countryside in Idaho. I saw the wide open spaces, and how everything looked just a bit different from Florida besides it being much flatter and greener here.
It reminds you there's a big world out there and then when it's time to go back home, how good it is to be back while keeping the memories.
So, I am grateful for all that.
